A useful backup covers the data you need and has a tested restore method. For a database-driven site, files alone are not a complete backup.
What to do
- Identify website files, databases, mailbox data and important configuration that must be retained.
- Create a current backup before major updates, migration or destructive changes. In cPanel, inspect the available Backup or Backup Wizard tools.
- Download and protect an independent copy outside the hosting account. A backup left only on the same account uses storage and can be lost with that account.
- Agree on retention, restore scope and a suitable recovery window. Test restoration in an isolated location when practical.
Good to know
Do not assume a particular backup schedule or retention period is included without checking your service. Full-account restores may require provider assistance.
